A Vancouver Art Gallery Wedding

Jason and Ashley’s wedding stands out as another fabulous DreamGroup event that was pulled off in record time. We are thrilled to share the couple’s planning experience through the eyes of their planner extraordinaire, Genève McNally. Jason and Ashley were the ultimate clients. With less than 10 weeks to plan their wedding from start to finish, it was integral that they trust me and allow me to guide them strategically through the process. And they did. And because of that trust they had the most perfect wedding.

The moment I met Jason and Ashley, I had photographer Brian Noppe in mind for them. And from the photos, you can see very clearly just how perfect their dynamic was. Brian captured an effortlessly stylish couple as they moved through their day with poise and a fabulous sense of humour!

This wedding had to authentic, thoughtful, and decadent — but not too decadent because Jason is a grounded responsible guy. He knew that he wanted to spend his money on the things that were important to him and Ashley… great food, live music, and a fully stocked bar! A couple with fabulous taste, the ability to say what they do and don’t like, and the desire to let me take care of all the drama made for a winning combination!

Given the short time frame of our engagement, my fiancée and I were in dire need of expertise and experience.

We were recommended 3 planners to contact and Genève of DreamGroup impressed us the most. We contacted her only 2.5 months before our intended date. Within a week, she had secured the venue, the band, the photographer, the videographer, and so much! We had the right to choose the vendors we worked with, however Genève matched us perfectly with her existing contacts.

Long and short of it is we would never have been able to host an evening like this without Genève. I not only would recommend her, I already have recommended her! Thank you Genève and DreamGroup for making our wedding day a breeze!!

Invitations are typically sent out approximately 3 months before the wedding, but with only 10 weeks in which to plan it all we had to think creatively and quickly. Jason recruited friend and local graphic designer Rebecca Ayarra of Laneway Media to create a super modern and edgy Lucite invitation design befitting of the couple’s edgy style.

Impressing 170 hungry Italians with high expectations was no problem for Savoury Chef who ran that event like a well-oiled machine, offering a decadent multi-course plated dinner prepared on site. Anna Elizabeth Cakes knocked it out of the park with the mostarchitecturally fascinating cake design I’ve ever seen, featuring archesin honour of the Vancouver Art Gallery venue, Lion heads for the couple’s shared astrological Leo sign, and dramatic Skulls appealing to Jason’s appreciation of Mexican Skull Art.

Flowers were Ashley’s wedding priority! She loves flowers and wanted her wedding to exude a romantic yet contemporary feel. I immediately thought of Evan of Flowerz as I knew he’d be able to bring those two worlds together exquisitely. And he delivered!! The centrepieces offered drama with a touch of sparkle offering an understated feel that was important.

Music was also very important to Jason. During early planning discussions I had casually mentioned my favourite band Dr. Strangelove to Jason. When he enthusiastically responded with — “Do you think we could get them?” — I knew I had to make it happen! Call it kismet or just plain luck, but with one phone call I was able to secure Vancouver’s Favourite Dance Band to bring the house down. And they did not disappoint, performing a number of classics of the past 3 decades with a great emphasis on the 80s and 90s.

I am so very proud of this wedding. Not just because it was beautiful and everyone was happy, but because of the respect and trusting relationship I developed with my clients in such a short time. It made for a truly amazing wedding experience from start to end. I wish Ashley and Jason the utmost joy and adventure in their marriage and life together. See you at Palladio!
