One of the most exciting things about being a wedding planner in Vancouver, British Columbia is the wide variety of ways in which couples join their lives in marriage. With a huge multicultural population we have the privilege of witnessing many different cultures and traditions which are always meaningful. The practices and their meanings add such a rich and vibrant layer to the celebration and we love supporting the families and our couples as they honour their heritage in a modern time. DreamGroup planner Alexa Gayton supported Jamil & Zafrina with their beautiful wedding this past summer at Rosewood Hotel Georgia. Wedding Highlights

The Nikkah ceremony was definitely the highlight of the day! The traditions and customs surrounding an Ismaili Muslim ceremony are always a treat to witness. The bride and groom sat at a table with the officiants who were all very close friends to the couple. The officiants shared touching stories about the couple during the ceremony and it was very special.

What was the overall feel of this wedding?

Simple Elegance. Rosewood Hotel Georgia was the perfect venue for this reception! The beauty of the Spanish Ballroom was highlighted with white florals and gold accents provided by MV Decor. The sweetheart table was framed by a lovely circular gold backdrop which made for some stunning photos. There were so many lovely speeches throughout the evening and you could really feel how loved Zafrina and Jamil are.

What was the most successful part of the day?

I think the timing was the most successful part of the day. We started the reception activities a little later than expected as we were waiting for Zafrina and Jamil to return from photos (worth the wait!). With a little tightening up here and a little hustling there we were able to get things back on track pretty quickly with all of the important moments captured before Demin Photography’s scheduled end time.

What did you learn?

“I learned so much about Muslim weddings and the traditions that go along with them! Jamil’s mom was very sweet and took the time to explain what many of the practices were and how to prepare them. Although I have supported Muslim weddings before, it was definately more of a hands on learning experience this time around. I loved it and can’t wait to support another Muslim ceremony soon.” ~ Alexa Gayton
