Playing with Colour

 In Media

Jen + Nav’s wedding design was about as colourful as they come and this is one DreamGroup’s Jessie Kumagai will not soon forget! Rich jewel tones of royal blue, aquamarine, and fuchsia came together playing with colour in the most unexpected way with the direction of Koncept Event Design. Velvet draperies upped the luxury ante along with dramatic gold lanterns creating a fabulous east-meets-west fusion design.

It was important to Jen that the wedding feel classy, rich & decadent. She wanted to incorporate some of the brighter colors that are typically found in Indian weddings, balanced with ‘western’ textiles. The tone for their “Indian fusion” wedding was set with their beautiful invitation suite created by Cornwall Stationery, incorporating gold-gilded florals, inspired by Moghul-era Indian architecture, and classic navy and white tones.
Jen & Nav were such a lovely couple to work with, recalls planner Jessie… “They had been engaged for several years already…after they got engaged, time flew by as “life” happened (they had a son and also faced some family struggles), until this year when things had finally settled down and they had decided now was the time to plan their celebration of love.”
With Jen being Caucasian and Nav Indian, they wanted to have a western wedding with an Indian flair…and they wanted the wedding to be a unique and joyous occasion that their friends would remember for years to come. The whole celebration took place at The Vancouver Club, with the ceremony in the Lobby, cocktails in the Bar & Grill, and dinner/dancing in the Ballroom.
The couple made their grand entrance into the Ballroom with bhangra music and were immediately followed by a fantastic & lively bhangra dance group that thrilled the guests. After the Indian-inspired grand entrance, they wowed the guests a little further with the more ‘western’ tradition of sabering a champagne bottle. After that, champagne was served to all for the welcome & congratulatory toast to kick off the rest of the evening.
The ceremony & reception set-up were absolutely stunning with jewel-toned florals in hot pinks, purples & burgundy, combined with lush velvet fabric for the linens & draping in a deep shade of royal blue. To give it more of an Indian flair, we added tons of Moroccan-style gold lanterns in a variety of shapes, and they were seen lining the ceremony aisle, found on the tablescape, and hanging from the chandeliers at the Vancouver Club. We also set up a beautiful lounge area in the alcove of the ballroom, draped in the same blue velvet fabric and set up with Moroccan-style furniture and gold poufs.
