Ask a Planner Ceremony & Vows

 In Branding, Media

Hello Genève & DreamGroup,

We are thankful to have found this Ask a Planner service. We are having an outdoor ceremony at Grouse Mountain next summer and need some assistance with ceremony order & vow scripts. Ask a Planner: Ceremony Order & Sample Vows

We have a family friend officiating and a marriage commissioner lined up to witness it to make it legal as we understand that’s what needs to happen in British Columbia. We are creating our own version of a ceremony and are a little lost as to the order of the ceremony and what should be said. Help!

Can you please share some sample vows and an outline of a typical ceremony for us to work from?

Many thanks,

Julie & Martin

Hello Julie & Martin

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Grouse Mountain is one of our favorite wedding venues! The views and rustic feel of Altitudes Bistro and the Timber Room offer the perfect west coast backdrop!

I would be happy to offer some insight into a typical ceremony outline. And I have also listed a couple examples of ceremony vows for you to reference and make your own. A fun idea is to recite vows that you both say and know ahead of time and then include a couple heartfelt authentic words that are only revealed to one another during the ceremony. My best advice is to speak from the heart. In addition, you can also find some more helpful vow examples and cultural explanations on the ever popular Martha Stewart Weddings Blog.

Look at each other while sharing your vows and try to be as present as possible in the moment. It goes by very fast and can feel somewhat like a dream after the fact. Wishing you a truly beautiful wedding journey and the happiest marriage. Send me a photo! 🙂

Once you’ve done some research and planned the ceremony order and started thinking about your vows, check out this helpful article that shares some insider perspectives on planning the perfect ceremony: Creating the Perfect Ceremony.

Sample Ceremony Vows:

#1

From this day on I choose you

I promise to love and respect you

To bring joy to your life

Struggle with you in the bad

Share with you all my riches

Be your constant friend

And faithful partner

I love you with all my heart

And will love you for the rest of my life.

#2

I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad.

In sickness and in health for richer and for poorer.

To speak and to listen.

Be honest with you.

To respect, trust, and care for you.

I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

#3

I give you my heart as I have no greater gift to give. I promise that from this day forward you shall not move through life alone. May my heart be your shelter and my arms be your home. I feel so blessed to call you mine. May we feel this connection and joy forever. I love you with all my heart.

And if you prefer to have a little more fun with your vows… check out these examples:

Officiant:

You have already shared so much in the years you’ve known each other. You’ve laughed together in moments of joy, and comforted and supported each other through times of struggle and sorrow. In a very real way, you’ve grown up together. In fact, you have already been everything to each other that you are committing to be here today: a friend, beloved consoler, and confidant. A partner and co-conspirator through life’s greatest adventures.

Bride:

I promise to…

send you meeting invites for all of our important commitments.

never check the mail.

fall asleep as soon as you start driving.

provide kisses on demand.

plan trips to interesting places.

make you laugh out loud.

be the best parts of me that fit perfectly with the best parts of you.

Although I am human, and therefore imperfect,

I pledge to be sensitive and respectful of your talents, abilities and quirks.

I vow to lend you strength for all of your dreams.

Through our union we can accomplish more than I could alone.

I believe in you.

Groom:

I promise…

I will never update my Google calendar when we’re talking to each other,

and will go to bed at 9:00 every night and not stay up scrolling on my phone,

to occasionally trick you into skiing the blue run, snuggle you as often as possible,

I will always laugh at your jokes in public.

to catch spiders and put them outside without hurting them.

I will be the best parts of me that fit perfectly with the best parts of you.

Although I will be imperfect, I pledge to be sensitive and respectful of your talents, abilities and quirks.

I pledge to lend you strength for all your dreams.

Through our union we can accomplish more than I could alone.

I believe in you.

Have some fun with these and take parts of each to really personalize vows that really speak from your heart.
