What was the theme, colours, and overall feeling?

Organic and Sustainable. The couple wanted something that suited Hycroft’s aesthetic whilst remaining understated.  The colour palette was white and green with live plants in white pots running down the length of the tables with moss and lots of candles.  It was beautiful and felt warm and welcoming.

What were the highlights of this wedding Olivia?

It was such a lovely wedding. Sustainability was important to the bride Miya so we did potted plants instead of floral arrangements down the tables.  Miya’s bouquet was made of white tulips as they are her mum’s favourite flower.  And she wore two repurposed gowns!

So Olivia, were there any challenges on the wedding day?

Yes! The weather! About 12 days out, the forecast was nothing but sun. It was the same on the Monday of the wedding when we sent out their stationary to be printed. Unfortunately, by Tuesday the forecast called for rain and did not change.  Miya and David re-did their seating plan to accommodate the different layout we would have to use if we ended up having to do dinner downstairs in the ballroom.  They got a new seating chart printed last minute as back up.  Closer to the day it was looking as if the rain would only be in the morning, so we pushed back the floral & decor set up at Hycroft from 10:00am to 12:00pm to give us a little more time to make “the call”.  At 11:00am it was still raining but also still forecasted to stop.

The other issue was the temperature.  It was looking to be quite chilly, but the couple really wanted to be outside. We checked with the venue who let us know that they had three heaters and some blankets available if we needed them. We sent out a message to all the guests reminding them that dinner would be outside and encouraged them to bring a jacket or sweater.  In the end, the rain cleared up and we placed two heaters around the tables with older guests and left one off to the side for whomever requested it and gave out blankets.  All turned out well!

Tradition Inc.

During dessert, Miya & David changed into their traditional Chinese outfits to give their thank you speech.  It was important to the groom David that they did that for his family.

What was the most fun moment of the day?

Miya and David took dance lessons with Moe Brody, a partner at Harbour Dance Centre, to choreograph a super slick and romantic first dance! They chose a version of the dance from LaLa Land (the infamous one on the hill with the bench) and it looked awesome and turned out so well!
